Greetings,
I have been printing nonstop for the past three months and I am just getting this X axis layer issue. Below is the progression of the shifting.
So as you can see this is the same model with the same gcode. At first I thought it was an issue with the Z axis since it was always the same places that the printer is shifting. But the Y axis is still perfect. Any thoughts on how I can fix this issue? Should I just lubricate the X axis and see if that fixes the issue? I already looked at the grub screw on the X axis and it is still secure.
Thank you!

Re: Layer shifting
the pictures are so small its hard to tell but is the shift happening on the exact same layer each time you print it?

Re: Layer shifting
I have updated the pictures, and yes you should be able to see them better.jimc wrote:the pictures are so small its hard to tell but is the shift happening on the exact same layer each time you print it?
Re: Layer shifting
well it does look like its shifting in the same place. i cant be 100% sure. you will have to take measurements and see if its happening on the same layer. if it is then that is a sign that there is a problem with the gcode. does it do this with other gcode files or just this one? layer shifts are usually from nozzle collision or dragging. this can be from part warping or over extrusion. this can also be from your acceleration and or xy movenet speed too high. s3d had it defaulted to 18000. i found this to be a little high. i had problems a while back with this issue. once i lowered my acceleration to 1000 and my xy movement speed to 9000 i havent had a single skip since.

I had this same problem and I found out the set screw on my stepper motor wasn't secure enough so I loctited it down and it's now good.
Re: Layer shifting
what is your travel speed set to, could you possibly be skipping steps?
M2 - MKS SBase w Smoothieware, GLCD, 24v, Upg Z & extruder stepper - IR bed leveling, Astrosyn dampers X/Y/Z, MIC 6, Zebra, PEI, & glass Build Plates - E3D, V3B Hotends, & more - many other 3d printers - production printing.
Re: Layer shifting
if it has also been three months since you have checked your z height and bed level I would suggest starting there. Especially if you normally have success printing large long prints. If this is your first large longer print bed leveling is more crucial for larger and longer prints.
