It's a laser cutter/engraver that they're advertising as a 3D printer. That's a bit of a stretch.

For a laser cutter, though, it has a good price point.

These don't have all the easy to use software, autofocusing, or friendly industrial design, but larger working areas:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/40W-CO2-USB-Las ... 1264099304
http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Hot-sell ... 5,201409_5

I'm amazed how low these prices have fallen.

Not entirely sure what I'd do with a laser cutter, but I said that before buying an M2, too.

Here's an in-depth look at the Glowforge: http://www.tested.com/tech/543141-meet- ... r-printer/

Unlike those cheap Chinese cutters I listed, I think the main innovation is in the software, cameras, and ease of use. The Chinese printers come with Chinese software, which is... utilitarian at best. They also claim to be producing their own custom "mode 0" laser tube, whatever that means, which results in a tighter spot. One striking aspect is that much of the processing happens in cloud services, so if they ever go out of business you're left with a pile of hardware.

If anyone decides to pick one up, use my referral link for $100 off. Yes, I couldn't resist.

Okay.....I seriously need someone to talk me out of this.......dammit! Not getting any help at all from my family.
(Matter of fact...and i quote...."Oh go ahead - you never buy any nice clothes or shoes like a normal girl does.")
And that's from my mother.

PcS, remind me to stomp you for posting that link, and Jin - you had to post the link to the video, didn't you?

I will resist.
