Hi Guys,
Loving my new M2, and have enjoyed printing a lot of things from stuff I've found online. I've come across a lot of instances though where it'd be nice to put something on a platform and have it render a 3D image file for me that I could easily reprint on my M2. I know zilch about 3D scanners, so I have no idea what the key features I should look for are or what would integrate well with the M2? I'd like to keep the cost around $500, but for the right 3D scanner, I'm prepared to spend more if the improvements in accuracy/speed/etc are justified.
So what do you guys recommend? TIA!

In a nutshell, unfortunately there is no, good, cheap fast way to get a 3D copy ready for your printer. The Autodesk 123 Catch program may be of some use. http://www.123dapp.com/catch
Sooner or later your going to want to do your own design and need to learn a 3D program. I started out with TinkerCAD, then to 123D and settled on Fusion 360. Part of my problem was I already knew 2D Cad as AutoCAD. These programs are CAD but don't exactly follow what I learned on. Another program I use is FreeCAD. Good luck.

Autodesk Memento is a quite nice alternative to 123D Catch.

In terms of scanners there's noting in the $500 range that's worth a hoot other than just for messing around. To get any serious scans you'll need something like the David SLS-2 at $2900. If you want to get in for less you can by their software and source the hardware yourself. I was all in at $2100 and that included a new laptop to run it all.

Just saw this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9GNG_yF_u3c, $1200. Results seem pretty good, and the youtuber likes it better than the SLS-1 at least.

Cheaper yes but it can't hold a candle to the SLS-2. It's a totally automatic solution that's pretty much fixed in it's basic capabilities. Still better than some of the others like the Matter and Form, Makerbot, etc. Structured light usually is.

Meh - no android app. Anything that releases only apple apps first I ignore completely.
