Thanks I'll look into this more! The softwear is what is really holding things up. It takes a lot of time to measure and draw each shoe so if I can get that problem solved we will be onto something

If you specify for us the measurements which go into a shoe, maybe we could give it a go. For funsies. Or PM me if it's a trade secret. I promise not to enter the 3D printed farrier trade.

Sure, except can you also specify where you measure the foot? Or does it need to be precisely fitted to the exact shape of the hoof?

It needs to fit the hoof exactlt.otherwise it would be easy to just save a shoe and scale it for each hoof. The issues is the nails need to line up right over the white line of the hoof otherwise the horse will go lame if the nails are inside of that area. If they are outside then they don't hold the shoe on gold enough.

Okay, post a photo of a shoe with a scale in it and I can test out a workflow that will get you a perfectly matched shoe.

Monday I will take a photo of an actual hoof with the scale in it and then I'll show you the shoe design I want to fit to and then we can try this out and I'll actually print the shoe and see how it works.
Thanks so much for your help!

I was listening to the WTFFF 3D Printing Podcast this morning and guess what came up at the end of the episode-- Shoes for horses! Definitely a market out there! The MatterHackers interview is interesting, but if you want to skip ahead, the horse conversation starts at about 32 minutes in.

I'll check that out! On the 16th my printed shoes and the m2 will be featured in the American farriers journal. They are doing a whole artical on it. I have a softwear company helping me make the Cad stuff to make it easy for anyone to print shoes that fit there horses! Exciting times!

This shoe was printed in an hour and 30 minutes and has a steel insert in the heal. I'm printing with the .75 nozzle and .4 layers so quality sucks but hey it's a horse shoe not a rocket ship. Image
