Projects stop midway!

Post by iflycars » Wed Jun 29, 2016 12:25 am

I am using a Makergear M2 and it has been working without any problems up until now.

Suddenly, all of the projects that I have started to print just stop midway. It just stays there. The printer stays on, the extruder and the base stay at the temperature that I set them to, so the PLA leaks a little bit because the extruder tip is hot.

Can anyone tell why this is happening? Or at least any insight they may have? Seriously, any help is great!

First thing to check is power surges, possible weather, or doing something on the computer that causes it to drop the connection if you are printing over USB. (For instance - plugging your iPhone in to charge it while a print is going on will crash your print....ask me how I know  )

Another thing that can happen if you are running Windows 10 is that the USB port goes to sleep unless you turn that off in the Power Saver settings, and if you recently scored an update from the mental midgets at Microsoft, it tends to reset whatever you had specified, so that needs to be checked.

To have the machine just pause like that is usually a sign of communications interruption, so you might try to just print off the SD card - that is a direct connection and not subject to as many interruptions.

Second thing to check - is it really stopping on all of your prints now, or is it anytime you try to print a specific file? (Might just be a corrupt file.)

Third thing to check - if you are running through a hub....that might be failing. The USB connections on the back of a desktop computer are the best connections to use for printers. They are more stable.

I haven't been able to do lengthy prints for several months now, because the weather has been giving the power supply fits. Thunderstorms every afternoon, like clockwork. It's beginning to be quite tedious!

The weather has been fine, I have played with the fill controls and adjusted them, I have tried different files (spoiler alert: they all stop), and I'm in a weather-regulated building., I also tried to print from the SD card but those projects also stop. At first, they run great but then they just don't.

Can you please help me?
