Shaper Origin

Post by jsc » Sat Aug 27, 2016 4:27 am

I thought this was interesting enough to preorder one:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p_wk3q8jWcs

It's a handheld router with a computer controlled bit. It uses machine vision and some fiducial tape you put all over your work surface to know where it is. You feed it a design and trace along the lines it shows you on the screen. Any small movement errors are automatically corrected for by displacing the bit. The advantage over a full CNC router is that you can cut arbitrarily large pieces, and it doesn't take up much space.

Won't ship until next year, but I'll have my craft cutter to play with until I get my Glowforge.

Referral code for $100 off for you and me both if you're interested: https://preorder.shapertools.com/ref/6VYTVJU9K
