New filament testing

Post by steve220 » Fri Oct 14, 2016 1:34 pm

Any tips on a preferred method to test/determine the best settings for a new roll of filament? This looks intriguing:

I'm assuming the gcode would run fine. A nice 'one and done' test piece would be nice.

Is it a type of filament that you haven't printed before? For those I try to find something written up on Amazon - real world examples of the temperatures that people had the best success with.

As far as that test case goes....you would have the set the temperatures to change based on different layers in Simplify3D - it's not going to be an automatic switch, nor are the temperatures going to necessarily be in the correct range of temps for whatever you are printing. But yes, that might be a good test case if it is correctly set up. (That looks like a temp range for PLA.)

Use the posted .STL file and set up your own temperatures instead of relying on those in any posted G-Code files.

G-Code is what tells the machine how to move and what temperatures to set, and those are for an Ultimaker, not an M2. You will need to generate your own set of G-Code for the M2 by slicing the .STL file using Simplify3D or Slic3r. Those are the programs that create G-Code for us. :)
