Printed kids Tauntaun costume (well, the head at least)
Printed kids Tauntaun costume (well, the head at least)
Hi! Long time CG artist but new to 3D printing. Love love love my Makergear so far. It was a recent gift from my wife for our anniversary and I'm just blown away by the machine.
My 4 yr old wanted to be Luke Skywalker on a Tauntaun for Halloween. I spent a few hours in Zbrush on the head sculpt, printed it out on a super low infill setting (1% iirc) to keep the weight down and medium quality.
Spent many many more hours on the rest of the costume with upholstery foam, fur and lots of painful burns with a hot glue gun.
Zbrush Tauntaun head:
Luke's radio headset:
Head print:
Finished costume:
And a little video I made of him goofing around in it:

I would love to be able to toss off phrases like that
I need to get back to becoming Blender proficient.

Totally impressive job.
I've equally impressed that this was achieved with such low infill.

Re: Printed kids Tauntaun costume (well, the head at least)
Thanks all. 3dPrintingMD: The 1% seemed pretty...sketchy. As I watched the machine lay down the infill it did seem somewhat stringy and messy. But the end result was exactly what I was looking for which was negligible weight. There were a few small breaks and holes in the surface but nothing I couldn't patch. Having said that, If I use such a low infill in future I'd like to be able to increase the outer wall thickness, to have a thicker 'skin' as it were. So If anyone knows what the actual setting in Simplify 3D is for that I'm all ears, because I can't see it.
Thanks for any info!

You want to up the number of Outline/Perimeter Shells on the Layer tab to increase the skin thickness.
