Post by CCRN » Tue Jun 20, 2017 2:53 pm

I am printing Steve's ikea camera mount from thingiverse.

Thanks,

Jerold

McMaster-Carr has them. The heating irons and tips are on the right-hand columns of each size.

Although they're intended for heat or ultrasonic setting, that requires far more precision / equipment / fussing than seems reasonable. I make the hole a snug fit for the insert's OD, butter it up with epoxy, and shove it in place.

Works like a charm:

Get 'em from Amazon in two days or from eBay in two weeks. Search for (knurled brass insert) and away you go.

Some measurements and observations on eBay inserts:

I get my heat set inserts from Mcmaster.

Just a heads Up.... If you're going to print that just double check the light you have both of of mine have a tapered base pieces at the bulb head where my mount clamps on but I've been told some lights have a straight piece there so it might not work.

Ok, Amazon is great. Now I just have to figure out the size I need. Steve wrote on thingiverse he used 2/56" screws. The female end where it would go measures 3mm wide by roughly 5mm deep.

I am thinking this one would be about right and would love some confirmation before I order.

My light has the taper in it. Which item should I order from McMaster? There is a lot there.

Steve,

Would this screw work in the inset you spec'd?

Looks like the "Thread Fit" spec is different.
