BRATAG,
Could you share your gcode for cube print you posted? I'm having some problems getting quality cubes and rather than chew up space here with stupid questions, I thought I might get a better handle on it with "known-to-be-good" code.

I'm a bit mystified about this, but printers don't all seem to be the same in the dark. I bought a Turnigy TinyBoy 18 months ago which proceeded to pour out pretty good prints from the start - first one, a cube was close to perfect, but with some warping of bottom. I fixed this by adding a heated bed, but no fan.

problem when something more or less works form start is you don't learn anything.

I could learn a lot from gcode which makes good prints on someone else's M2. BTW, the samples which came with mine all print beautifully.

"it's more that the firmware won't care after a certain precision. i don't know what it is, but .1905 will be close enough"

That's what I figured. Thanks, I'll try it.

I'm still not seeing how (1007.70 steps/mm)(0.1905 mm) = 191.96 steps is an even number of steps that the printer can more easily process.

Fine, then use 0.1905328966954451 as the layer height.

I get your point, but how is 191.96 steps @ 0.1905 mm layer height easier to process than 201.54 steps @ 0.200 layer height?

The hope is you get it close enough that the firmware just rounds it to 192 steps. I guess I was too aggressive with my rounding?

I printed some parts in ABS yesterday with a .165 layer height.
I did not get any banding on the magnitude you're seeing. If I light it VERY shallow with a point light source (LED), I can pick up a very slight irregularities. I don't feel like the banding you are seeing is characteristic of the M2. It's not a perfect surface, but it doesn't have a pattern.

Here's what the part looks like under normal light.

and if I light it to make it as ugly as possible
