Issue printing any object on my M2

Post by ratslayer » Sat Mar 16, 2019 7:47 pm

Any idea what might be causing this? I fired up the printer after about two months of inactivity and
now all the prints keep slowly shifting over to the right. It was printing fine before. This happens with
anything I try to print.

The objects render correctly but do not print correctly. See images below.

I have tried with Pronterface/Slic3r on both Windows and Linux (multiple versions as well).
They all give the same results. I am using the M2 default slicer configs from the wiki.

I am running the latest version of the firmware for my printer.

M2 with the following config
  • Sliver Z-axis motor
  • 24volt PS
  • Z-min top
  • v3b hot-end
Printer startup message:

Code: Select all

Connecting...
start
Printer is now online.

My guess would be a loose belt or something like that on the axis where you have trouble. It must be skipping teeth.

pully is held in place with a set screw on a flat spot of the shaft.. Could have come loose..

What it's not:
  • software
  • firmware
  • slicing
  • model
So, if you changed any of those, change them back.

Because all the layers "look good", apart from being in the wrong place, it's a classic nozzle-hitting-cooled-plastic problem, which suggests:
  • the filament isn't what it used to be: wetter / dryer / aged
  • the room isn't what it used to be: warmer / cooler
  • the printer isn't what it used to be: mechanical problems
The X axis collision starts on the first layer, so it's not the filament or room temperature.

Verify the grub screw in the X-axis pulley is tight, then proceed.

The first layers look entirely too thick, so I'd suspect the Z-axis home position isn't where it should be:
  • Verify the Z-axis switch clamp tightness
  • Re-set the switch position = Z-axis home position to whatever it was you used last year
  • Print a calibration square, verify actual height, adjust Z-axis offset as needed
After you have the offset set correctly, verify the Extrusion Multiplier, too.

Thanks for all the feedback!

I found the following

- Set screw on the pulley was loose. Pulley was tight but could see evidence of spinning on the shaft.
- Couple of fasteners were loose on the extruded assembly

I am going to disassemble everything and clean, lube and tighten.

Will provide a final update once that is complete and I can test it.

This issue has been resolved. The printer is working as expected after tightening the pulley set screw and other fasteners.

Thanks again for the help!
