Here is another question.....
since my printer will be next to my computer anyways, can I just remotely access my computer and S3D. cound't I just install octoprint on my desktop? would that leave my computer vulnerable or unsecure? If I can access it, who else could?
If I used just the RasPi it seems like it might be safer......
looks like I answered my own question here.

but I still worry about the security of my computer. and what if my desktop goes into sleep mode?
hoping to join the makergear community soon!
Re: hoping to join the makergear community soon!
They have a software option for driving a small lcd screen. I've never messed with it though.

Also the newest version is supposed to be much more tablet friendly if you connect via the web. I don't have that version installed yet though.

You can certainly run OctoPrint on a desktop or laptop. The advantage of using a dedicated mini-computer is that it doesn't go to sleep, and doesn't have to think about doing anything else other than driving your printer. Sometimes I would get pauses when driving the printer through Simplify3D as an external disk spun up.
Re: hoping to join the makergear community soon!
Found a Raspberry pi with camera and wifi used for $60 that I am going to jump on! Still no printer though, and my order status still says unfulfilled at the moment
I know I am impatient, I am sure it will be worth the wait though. Are there any accessories or tools I should also invest in for the M2? I still have a ton of aquanet but I will probably be using PLA or this new PET stuff I have been hearing about, So maybe some blue painters tape or a gluestick?
Thanks again for the help guys. I might start a build thread when the printer comes in. It will be full of bad grammer and crappy pictures but you guys can see if I put something on backwards

I would suggest printing some of the spare parts with ABS as soon as you get it. Especially the drive motor mount as it tends to go the soonest, or at least it did for me. And one of these two switches is really handy for not having to plug it in and unplug it to turn it on/off. I started with the Woods switch but switched over to the Wemo, they both work great but the Wemo you can work with you phone and through the internet:helifrek wrote:Found a Raspberry pi with camera and wifi used for $60 that I am going to jump on! Also you'll probably want a spare extruder, or the parts to repair it if you get a really bad clog.
Re: hoping to join the makergear community soon!
I plan to use a surge protector as a power switch. Plugged into that will be my vivint power plug which is like that wemo thing but a little bigger. It has a button on it for manual control as well so I don't really need to use the surge protector switch.
Will be sure to print spare parts first!

I also pulled the trigger an a M2 Kit, My main reason was, one, the build quality, and Two, the community that helps support this printer. A little over two weeks to go.... This is killing me already... LOL
Re: hoping to join the makergear community soon!
merkur, the wait is worth it. I got mine a few weeks ago. The quality is excellent and the support has been awesome. I wish I had 2.
Re: hoping to join the makergear community soon!
12 days down. Hopefully not many more to go. Will I get any updates when it does ship or will it just show up out of the blue. My order status still says unfullfilled.
On a side note. Hope everyone has a happy thanksgiving!
