Thingiverse Groups

Post by jsc » Wed Jan 21, 2015 12:05 am

Just checked Thingiverse and they've rolled out a new Groups feature. Let's try it out!

I've created a "MakerGear M2" group: http://www.thingiverse.com/groups/makergear-m2

Please join me.

Thanks for the heads-up! Wouldn't you know; I check Thingiverse every day, but the one weekend I have no time because I have family visiting from all over, they spring something new on me, and I miss it. But thanks, Jin. All it needs is a nice picture for the group logo (hint, hint).

So, people are posting their objects to the group, which is great.

But I was hoping you could post other people's things, to use it as a group-curated collection, and it doesn't appear you can. Which is too bad. It would also be helpful to have multiple named collections. Why must you tease me, Thingiverse!

Their discussion feature is similarly uninteresting (for us) as Tim helpfully pointed out.

I'm happy that it's easy to follow group members, so it's easier to keep an eye on you guys.

To get other people's things listed, I guess the best approach is to message the people whose things you want posted, and try to convince them to contribute.

And think about lobbying the Thingiverse maintainers for the capability to organize a group's list of things into self-styled categories. I'm sure they take suggestions, if you know who to send them to.
