Didn't have the same problem with ABS. I've now switched to all PTFE, but haven't retried the PLA experiment to see if it made a difference.

What I've heard is that with all metal the hot zone is larger and in most cases it's desireable to keep it all small as possible - the PTFE helps keep the hot zone small. Since PTFE is OK with most of the materials we print with these days I'd say it's the easy answer and all metal is useful for people who want to try high temp exotic materials.
PTFE is night and day difference with PLA... the parts are gorgeous.

I use the all-metal one with ABS, and it seems fine.

The dual v4 upgrade kit should be shipping in 4-6 weeks.

The single v4 upgrades are now shipping in batches.

Thanks! So the difference between the V4 and V3b is that the V4 will just allow higher temperatures?

That and the hot zone will be shorter and sharper for better filament control.

The v4 does not use any PEEK, is easier to disassemble and clean, works with a range of materials, can be used at higher temps, has a metal mount, is smaller, more manufacturing friendly, easier to assemble, among other things...

Just completed the order for my V4 dual extruder upgrade! Super excited! Now the hardest part is the wait, but MakerGear has proven time and again that the wait is completely worth it!

Any idea when the single v4 to dual v4 extruder kit will be ready?

I have loved my v4 extruder, and since I just started printing in rubber and flexible materials, this is REALLY where I see a big use for dual extruders.. flexible AND rigid in the same part.. *mmmm*
