Wait, what? I just ordered some of these this weekend. I need a special tool? Can I half ass it somehow?Dale Reed wrote:No, the real PITA is the crimping tool...

Yes but its a lot easier with the crimper tool
Re: Extruder fan... what is the 2pin connector called ?
i crimp them with just a set of tiny needle nose pliers. work fine.

Well, you smash the wings flat, they're not actually crimped. It's fine to DIY but I'd be pissed if that's how I received the parts from MG, because of how easily they'll come back apart.jimc wrote:i crimp them with just a set of tiny needle nose pliers. work fine.

I will rip my wires trying to pull them out but your right its hardly professional. I dont think any of us are going to spend the $300-$1200 it cost for a set of pin crimpers.
Re: Extruder fan... what is the 2pin connector called ?
For most small pins I'll use the $9 RadioShack DSub crimpers. They worked really well, and are actually perfect for DuPont-style connectors from eBay. They get the proper arch in the wings and fold over to pierce the insulation.jimc wrote:I will rip my wires trying to pull them out but your right its hardly professional. Good tip. Ill have to stop in there before they go bankrupt
Re: Extruder fan... what is the 2pin connector called ?
I just got my connectors in. I've never worked with these connectors before, so just to be sure, what do I do?
Wires go in the pins, all the way up to the copper bit? Then the wings get crimped together, then the copper bit gets inserted in the back end of the connector? Just the rearmost wings get crimped and the bendy spikes hold it in place? Sorry if this seems blindingly obvious, just want to get it right.

Re: Extruder fan... what is the 2pin connector called ?
there are 2 sets of "wings" the first set on the end are sort of long. those crimp and grab the insulation of the wire so the insulation should go just past that. the stripped wired go in the next set of crimp wings. the are shorter but wider.
