In my opinion (assuming you run the V4) the answer to that question is NO. I don't believe the extruder fan is actual needed on the v4 setup. (I haven't had run one on one of my printers for years and I haven't had any problems.) I think that fan use to be to control heat creep from the hotend to the extruder but on the V4 the hot end is separate from the extruder so heat creep is a thing of the past. The extruder is just a gear and a bearing so what is there to cool now?hybridprinter wrote:but what if you turn the printer power off before the extruder gets under 50 C ? the extruder fan needs to stay running after a print job finishes to cool the extruder down right?
I've compared extruder motors with and without the extruder fan and there wasn't much difference in temps if at all.
Anyway that's just my opinion but like I said I've run with no fan for years so.....
