I'm sure once the guy found out that people were on to him for having stolen equipment and knew his contact information, it was probably wise not to make it any worse and just return it.

Loved that movie! 8-)

Probably a kid, testing his brute force algorithm. (I've been hit by them twice - once by someone taking a bunch of his buddies to see the movie "War" in California when it came out, and some other squirt buying RPG time online.)

Hopefully you have turned him/(her) from a life of crime Rick, so congratulations! :D

Yeah, I'm guessing it was a kid too. I've been nailed by credit card fraud from people in Vietnam a few times, although with software the most you actually lose is the shipping costs (or nothing if you don't ship anything). The part that ticks me off is you still have to pay the "discount fee" on a credit card transaction even if it is a stolen card. That and the fact that you don't get refunded this fee when someone returns something or does a chargeback is just total BS. The card company gets to keep their cut even when the sale doesn't actually happen! When you are selling items that cost multiple thousands, these fees are substantial. Credit cards are great for consumers but totally suck for merchants. I've had them hang onto "suspected fraud' transactions for months while their lethargic fraud department takes their dear sweet time releasing the funds. It's not like just some card processing companies suck either, they ALL have the same bogus policies.
Experience is what you get when you didn't get what you wanted.
