Extruder acts funky

Post by LTSaz » Thu Jun 23, 2016 5:41 pm

I have the Makergear M2 V4 hotend, and whenever I attempt to extrude filament (PLA black), I get issues. I have tried changing temperatures, and adjusting (loosening and tightening) the tension knob.

Here are some pictures I took of the extruder/hotend, and the 3rd is a picture after I retracted it. If I put pressure on the filament, it will sort of extrude, and when I retract it I have to put extra pressure to get it out.

Any help would be appreciated!

What do the teeth marks look like on a batch of filament, after you've extruded and retracted?

Look at this guide: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=2694

I will have to check the teeth marks, but I have tried tightening/loosening the filament drive tension screw, and the results ended up the same

If you are trying to hit the correct tension by sheer luck, it's going to take you a considerable amount of time to get it right.

Read the instructions at the link that insta gave you, look at the diagram posted there, look at the tooth marks on the end that you pull out of the machine when you retract it, and then make adjustments to the tension.

(Or post a picture of the tooth marks so someone can tell you whether you need to loosen or tighten the screw.) The picture that you showed of the filament shows absolutely no tooth marks....if that's the side that is supposed to have them, then you need to increase your tension. :)
