Re: M2 Slic3r settings

In case anyone's interested, I've updated the configurations available on https://github.com/kefir-/M2-config: slic3r-config-PLA.ini - basic Slic3r config for PLA, with all the latest bells and whistles from slic3r 1.1.4-dev. slic3r-config-PLA-careful.ini - a "careful" configuration. A bit slower, s...

Re: Tuning Hot End PID

If you're asking me, yes I've run M303 and then M301 with the resulting numbers. The only thing I haven't tried so far (that I can think of) is to run M303 with more iterations, until now I've only done the default of 3. The numbers are being set, because after running M301 the undershoot following ...

Re: Tuning Hot End PID

A couple of days ago I finally got around to compiling the latest Marlin with modifications to fit the original M2 , including adding support for the M108 instruction. I also have the older machine (purchased late 2012), so since it works for me it should work for you. My clone of Marlin is at https...

Re: Thar she blows

For what it's worth, I think slic3r started doing a pretty good job of supporting the outer perimeter of protruding features a while ago. https://github.com/alexrj/Slic3r/issues/1295 Tim, I'm curious what sort of prints you get bad support for in slic3r. I don't use a lot of support, but I would lik...

Re: Removing PLA Prints from Glass Bed?

This is part of the reason why I don't use tape and print directly on hot clean glass. I find tape tears off almost every print and sticks to the part. Too much maintenance and bother for me :)

Re: Y-Axis can't find zero right

After homing once, my experience is that the firmware ignores the endstop if you tell it to move to a negative coordinate, like -20, so it certainly doesn't stop moves off the platform. I've no idea why this is so, and when I get around to compiling my own firmware that's on my list of things to cha...

Super fast flute

I designed a really simple flute that prints fast and makes noise. :) Also useful to play with "minimum time per layer" setting. I'm down to 3 seconds per layer when printing PLA with the fan on (slic3r's default is 15). http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:297867 http://thingiverse-production.s3.amazon...

Re: Changing Filament Mid Print?

You can disable the timeout in your start.gcode with M84 S0. Reenable it in your end.gcode with M84 S300 if you want. I do both, and also have a button for each in pronterface.

Pushing minimum time per layer

I print PLA and slice with slic3r, and have always just used the default of "Slow down if layer print time is below 15 seconds". I've been doing some tall slim models without infill and got sick of the wait, so I figured I'd try to push this. Right now I'm printing 100mm tall 6mm diameter spiral vas...
