Re: Weird Bubbling
very odd bubbling That looks like a a patch where the filament hasn't adhered to the platform: it curls slightly, rather than laying flat, so adjacent threads join together and look like bubbles. The patch is small enough that the threads can bridge the gap; if it were any larger, they'd peel off a...

Re: Easy lithopanes with Simplify3D
It was trivially non-manifold, and I was sure that that was not the problem. Well, things obvious to humans generally aren't all that easy to describe mathematically and whenever I'm positive it's not my problem, it is. [grin] Fixing a non-manifold object requires deciding which parts are correct, ...

Re: Accuracy vs Settings
Running 30 mm/s outer perimeters did produce blobs, but the transition from 150 to 50 seems to be OK; a factor of five may be too much. Either there's a threshold or I'm just not noticing a problem ...jsc wrote:the differential between infill/internal perimeter and external perimeter speeds is quite high

Re: Accuracy vs Settings
How do you validate settings This works for me... Print the thinwall open box ( http://softsolder.com/2014/04/18/revised-thinwall-open-box-calibration-object/ ) while adjusting things until: The wall thickness matches your preset thread width (0.40 mm, in my case) The height comes out at 5.00 mm It...

Re: Hot extruder motor
a hot extruder motor is the norm? A stepper motor's winding current determines the case temperature, because they operate as constant-power devices. Higher current produces more torque, but also more heat from the winding resistance; the good comes with the bad. Steppers run fine with disturbingly ...

Re: OpenSCAD knots
That's the kind of thing you must print in one piece, just so you can say "It printed just like that!" when somebody picks it up at a show-n-tell session... then, later, you explain about support material.
Well done!

As is always the case, Thingiverse offers many filament splicer designs, ranging from the sublime to the ridiculous:

Re: Evenly spaced sections of alternating thin and thick fil
stripes of perfectly normal layers, and stripes where no filament is extruded... It looks like alternating bands, each with precisely 16 threads: one set normal, one set under-filled. That suggests a problem connected to the extruder motor rotation, rather than anything in the hot end. If the tiny ...
