Z end stop clamp too big?

Post by akeeton » Wed Jul 01, 2015 3:49 am

Just received my kit. All was well with the installation until I reached the point of attaching the Z end stop.

The clamp appears to be too big.

The screws are tightened all the way down and there is no gap between the parts. But even tightened all the way down there's enough play that it actually wobbles and it slides freely on the rod.

Am I missing something or is the clamp really too big?

thats odd. granted its not super tight and you could move it on the oily rod if you wanted to but it should not be loose. i have never seen that on any of my printer or in over 2 years i have never seen someone post that on the forum. is it possible there is something between the two mating surfaces? a blob of plastic perhaps? make sure the surfaces are smooth and clean. if its still too loose just take some sandpaper and take some material off those faces so it will tighten up. get everything set up and print an new one

Or wrap the rod in electrical tape. Then print a new one. :D

My kit that I bought a few months ago was/is the same way. I wrapped the shaft with a layer of tape, then clamped it down. I've been too lazy/busy to make a new one though

Please send a photo of how it is mounted...this is the first I've heard about this.

I contacted support and they sent me a new one.

As best I can tell I had it mounted correctly.

The new one is slightly tighter and holds things in place alright.

What i find strange about this is these mounts are all from the same stl so what could be so different.

Hi there,

I had the same issue in my kit (which I received 10 days ago). My clamp was too big. Even though it was completely tightened it still slid freely on the shaft. I ended up using some insulation tape over the shaft and its fine now. Yeah, because it comes from the same STL file, that is odd there is a variance in size????

Extrusion differences can effect it. Inside holes get tighter with higher extrusion and looser with lower exstrusion.

The z clamp design used for the v4 extruder is way nicer. You can grab the stl from the makergear github page in the v4 folder.
