M2e Kit (Pre-order)

Post by rpollack » Tue Jul 19, 2016 6:55 pm

I get frequent emails about M2 kits. We are planning to bring back M2 kits for a limited run in August. We have updated the instructions and we'll be accepting pre-orders soon. One big difference is that kit support will be community only. We'll make sure that people understand that and I wanted to provide a heads-up here.

Thank you,
Rick

Uhhhhh....hate to point this out guys, but I am no expert in building these things from scratch. (I can only help with beginner things like what temp to print PLA at and stuff.)

Rick, can you clarify the community only support (mostly for others, I've already got my M2)? For example when I built my M2 as a kit a couple of years ago when I first tried to heat the bed it wouldn't come on. Turned out to be a bad thermister which was quickly replaced and I was working after that. I don't remember offhand whether it was a community person or Makergear tech support that helped me diagnose the thermister, and once that was determined it was Makergear who replaced it.

So lets pretend this happened next month, how would the troubleshooting and fix flow for this be?

@sprior - the person would post the issue here. I will also have MG support scan this section and respond but it will be intermittent. There will still be a warranty for kits but it will be shorter than the standard M2 warranty - probably 90 days.

I'm back.... I always said I would like to build one from scratch. When do you anticipate the kits to go up on the website?

We expect to have M2e kits available for pre-order within the next two weeks. I'll post the link here when it goes up. There will be a limited number of kits and/or a limited availability window.

Ahh, this stinks. I was interested in a kit and even emailed but never received a response about whether it would be available. This thread had died so I gave up and eventually bought an assembled one. I was looking forward to assembling and learning the machine.

If you really want to assemble it, I don't see any reason why you can't take it apart it.
