Dual extruder fans -- need to replace
Hi,
Mucking around with my M2 dual extruder I manage to break few wings on the 12V fan (the one that sits on the two extruders). And now the 24v seem to have died. Few questions:
1. Where can I get replacement fans? recommended models?
2. The 24v fan -- is it possible that this is a fan problem or a problem on the board? any way to test?

MakerGear sells the replacements - send an email to support @ makergear.com. Or if you prefer a quieter fan, the Noctua fans are popular with the group.

I would suggest just connecting it directly to a 24V supply to see if it's the fan or the board. There are several possibilities---one is that the fan is just dead; another is the fan is just not responding to the PWM signals and needs a "jump start"---there's an option for this in S3D. The power MOSFET on the board could have died, but fans are, relatively speaking, a lot more fragile than the power MOSFETs.nirfriedman wrote:2. Thanks! I recalled that I have another 24v (from the single-extruder version) and tested it and it works. I found that I managed to pull the wires from the little connector (I was trying to re-adjust the heads and so had to dismantle the fan assembly. So right now I am connected with the old 24v fan. It has a shorter connection so had to re-route the cable connection.
Regarding the 12V fan. Any model specification?

are the MG replacement fans ball bearing fans.
i've found the sleaved fans just don't last as long as the Ball Bearing fans.

So I got myself some replacement fans. Now I am faced with the question of how to connect them. It seems that the MG connector is not a standard? Any recommendations how to go about this (other than stripping the connector from the old fan and soldering it to the new fan cables?
Also, one of these fans came with three wires (red, black, and yellow). I am not sure what the third (the yellow?) is for.

You can get new fan connectors if you know how to crimp pins: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=1493
Third wire is a tachometer wire, for feedback on fan RPM. You can leave it unattached.

Use the red-handled "D-Sub crimper" from RadioShack. It's in the neighborhood of $10, and is not a ratcheting one. It works really well.
