I didn't manage to remove the collar without breaking it---it still has the collar in it.Jules wrote:No...i broke mine trying to get the collar out, or I'd have offered earlier. (I went without one for a while there.) But I'm glad someone managed to get the collar out without breaking it! (How'd you do it?)

Re: Makergear Z Knob
Thanks all for the advice and Tim for the offer. I'm in the UK, so it will probably be easier and cheaper for me to either source another collar or persuade some of the existing ones to fit. I'm actually in China for a few weeks, so I'm sure I could pick one up (or 50) for a lot cheaper than back home.
On that note, if anybody needs/wants some help to get their hands on some good ol' cheap and cheerful stuff while I'm here, let me know and I'll be happy to help where I can. Language isn't an issue so just point me in the direction of what you may need.

Re: Makergear Z Knob
Maybe I am missing something. Why do you need the metal insert?
Re: Makergear Z Knob
There's a little metal collar inside the knob with a set screw that lets you lock it onto the Z-axis rod.Slipshine wrote:Maybe I am missing something. Why do you need the metal insert?

I get its there. I have been working on a magnetic cluch system that will stop the z axis from falling. I have just been tapping the plastic parts and never had a problem with slipping. Will post the files when Im happy with it.Jules wrote:There's a little metal collar inside the knob with a set screw that lets you lock it onto the Z-axis rod.Slipshine wrote:Maybe I am missing something. Aha! In that case you don't, can't wait to see what you come up with.
