Y axis endstop triggering on wrong places...

Post by askernas » Fri Sep 11, 2015 8:48 pm

Hey gang!

I've seem to be getting false end stops on occasion when homing in the Y-axis.

At first I thought it was due to the cable accidentally hitting the microswitch, but that has been eliminated since I've been tying the cable up.

So, it happens quite often now.
I also seem to be getting drop outs in the thermistor readings. Octoprint reports it as temperature drops, obviously, like spikes, but going downwards.

Obviously, this seems to be a glitch somewhere, but would you venture these two are related?

Any idea where to begin looking on this issue? Any pack of cables that are bundled together where I might check this?

thanks in advance,
Micke

I suppose you have checked to make sure the cables are fully seated in the rambo?

You probably have a thermistor wire break. You may also be experiencing this issue: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=36 See if the problem sounds familiar and then skip to the last page if it does to skip past all the fumbling around.

I have a workaround in place.. I added two more "Home Y-axis" to my start gcode, one before, and one right after "home all. At least this keeps the issue from happening until I can sort out the wire that might be causing the issue.

I am in the process of exchanging my cable braids for cable chains instead, and will have some time to look over the wiring during this.

Hopefully cable chains will also sort out the thermistor that has slightly glitchy cable..

I wasn't entirely clear: the thermistor break and the Y glitch are most likely two different issues. The linked thread describes an EMI glitch on the Y axis that has happened to at least two people. The fix is to twist the Y axis cable.
