3D Pens

Post by MagicEngineer » Wed Mar 02, 2016 6:12 am

I very often print things that have to be glued together afterword. More than once it has been a frustrating pain in the backside to print objects that should line up perfectly only to find that I have a 1/32 cap somewhere that just wont line up. I have tried modeling contour putty. I have tried making a thick abs slurry with acetone, and I have even tried bondo. I was never happy with the results of any of them. So the other day I was online ordering filament, and an ad for one of those $50 3D pens popped up. I had seen them before and always thought "What do I need one of those for? I have a printer." It occurred to me however at that moment that it might work for touch ups. So After looking at reviews I settled on the VectorMoon, and I ordered one. It works like a charm. Filling gaps is a lot like welding. Best of all, you can use the same filament you used for the print so colors match perfectly. So, if anyone else has been toying with this idea, I have to report that a 3D pen is a must have in the 3D printers toolbox.

Yeah, I was thinking about a LIX for the same reason the other day. (Glueing, gap filling, adding different colored details to a print....that sort of thing.) Good to know it works. :)

(Come to think of it, I think intservo was working on one a while back, weren't they? What happened to that one - is it out yet?)

I saw they're selling them at a nearby Michael's the other day.
