I've heard cork is good.....don't have any though. (The roll cork never seems to "unroll" properly, I've used that for other crafts.)

Okay, independent study results are in and........

Heating the bed up from 24°C to 80°C without a sheet of foil on top takes 10 minutes and 5 seconds.

Heating the bed up from 24°C to 80°C with a sheet of foil on top takes 9 minutes and 38 seconds.

That's a whopping 27 seconds saved....in other words, not worth bothering with.

I use a layer or two of blue shop paper towels when I'm in a hurry. I never timed the heat up, but it sure seems to be a fair bit faster.

I have a lot of foam core board about. I'll cut out an 8x10 piece and see what kind of difference that makes - unless someone beats me to it.

one more test...

Heating the bed up from 24°C to 80°C with a folded dark colored towel on top takes 10 minutes even.
