communicate timeout

I recently got a Makergear for free and have the repetier software and I can connect to the printer, however I can not use the manual control option to move the printer head. In the dialogue window I'm getting messages such as 'No Start signal detected - forcing start' and 'Communication timeout - reset send buffer block'. It does show that I am connected to the printer on the software but I'm not sure what is going wrong. The person who gave it to me didn't know anything which is why I got it for free.

Probably wrong baudrate -- usually the M2s use 115200 baud.
