Cracks in wall of ABS printed piece

The attached is a tall thin structure I built that seemed to separate in a few places.
I am new to the 3d printing world.. Though I would be able to crank out volumes of items right out of the box.
Realizing there is a learning curve with process, settings, designs etc.
This forum is helping me drive through the requirements.

yeah sure, plastics shrink as they cool. abs is much morse than pla or pet. it builds internal stress and cracks. abs just isnt good for certain models. tall, thin, straight or boxy type models are a no go. usually with abs you have 2 things that happen. the shrinking force pulls the corners of the model up off the bed or if you have it attached solid enough then you get what you have in the picture. nothing you can do. you cant stop mother nature. this is why stratssys machines have heated chambers.
